Millions of Americans are addicted to the opiate of government. For some, it is a problem that spans generations. Simply removing the steady IV drip-drip-drip of subsidized health care, welfare, unemployment, retirement, and so on would be a huge shock to our system.

I’m not saying that it should not be done. We just need to be careful and realize that this is a long-term goal.

I’m wondering if Tea Party groups should endorse individual candidates or not. In the end, it’s up to the Tea Party group to decide, but what would be more effective?

There is merit to a group endorsement of a candidate. Such endorsements can convey strong support, cohesiveness, momentum, and so on. But I’d like to see a diversity of opinion on candidates from my fellow TP’ers. I’m not simply pulling the “R” lever like it’s some sort of reflex.

We should engage in vigorous yet CIVIL debate on this site and everywhere else in the public square. Each of us has a voice. We should exercise our First Amendment rights…

While we still can.

Summary:

First, read Horowitz’s essay Barack Obama’s Rules for Revolution. Then

1. Do the Unexpected. Raise Their Discomfort Level. Put them Off-Balance. Invert the Myth.

All four of these objectives are accomplished by inverting the Myth. The left feeds off the Myth that they are on the side of the Underdog, they are serving the underserved, defending society’s victims, championing the oppressed. And that you are the oppressor. By picking an issue and framing it so that it inverts the myth you accomplish all of the above. E.g., by having a Die-In outside mammogram facilities you dramatize that Obamacare will take a vulnerable group, women, and reduce them to budgetary statistics, and sentence individuals to unnecessary deaths. (Obamacare will do this to everyone, but since women have been portrayed and are perceived as a victim group, this dramatizes the way in which the socialist state is an oppressor.)

2. Make your point in a sound-bite or an image.

3. Provoke the left. Since the left controls the media, the key to getting media attention is to tick off the left. When the left squeals, the media listen. Inverting their Myth is the best way to do this.

4. Pick an issue that exposes the fact that they are the oppressor and you are defending the “oppressed.”

Conservatives are best organized around an issue. The left is a religious movement. They are saving the squirrels, the trans-gendered oppressed, the snail-darters, the planet. What unites them is their belief that America — capitalist America — is the Great Satan. Conservatives are generally already committed to religions in which the savior is not government but a divinity. They are pragmatic and attached to real world things and values. But conservatives can be galvanized into a movement if they perceive a threat to their way of life. Hence during the cold war, the threat of communism organized them around the issue of national security. The threat of Obama is doing the same thing (and Obama is really the same threat that we experienced from communism during the Cold War). Barack Obama and the socialist juggernaut he heads have persuaded conservatives that they are prepared to destroy everything Americans hold dear. So there’s no real problem in organizing conservatives now. Just focus on an issue that crystallizes Americans’ fear and frame it in a way that inverts the Myth and focuses attention on the source of the threat.

(Manassas, Virginia) The following is a statement by Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, concerning the withdrawal of GOP candidate Dede Scozzafava from the special election in New York’s 23rd congressional district:

“In her statement announcing suspension of her campaign in the special election for New York’s 23rd congressional district, Assemblywoman and liberal GOP nominee Dede Scozzafava refused to throw her support behind a fellow Republican, Doug Hoffman, who is running on the Conservative Party ticket in this particular race.

“That was one more example of the ‘closed tent’ mentality of big-government, establishment Republicans who have worked long and hard to keep conservatives out of power at the national, state and local levels.

“The GOP leadership’s backing of Ms. Scozzafava was a slap in the face to Tea Party activists, town hall protesters, and conservatives across the country. The Washington GOP establishment’s abandonment of fiscal responsibility led directly to the election of Barack Obama as President and Nancy Pelosi as Speaker. The American people see the GOP leadership and establishment every bit as much a part of the problem as the Democrats.

“Doug Hoffman and NY-23 is an earthquake in American politics, and is the first of many challenges to establishment Republicans that we will see for the 2010 elections and beyond. The stupid decision by Republican leaders to pour $900,000 into the NY-23rd race against a conservative has unleashed a fury that will lead to new GOP leadership.

“Conservatives anger at Washington-establishment Republicans will cost the national committees tens of millions of dollars as conservative money will start flowing directly to the Tea Parties and their candidates.

–end–

NOTE TO EDITORS: Richard A. Viguerie pioneered political direct mail and has been called “one of the creators of the modern conservative movement” (The Nation magazine) and one of the “conservatives of the century” (The Washington Times).

By Eugene Bevers, Brownsville Tea Party

Tea Party Patriot organizers around the country unanimously supported a recent proposal to hold new week long rallies in over 650 cities around the country. The rallies will target local and national offices of representatives and senators. Despite concerns expressed about overexposure and weather, all organizers agreed that we must do this to send a unified message; “We are still the silent majority and we will hold elected officials accountable for their votes”. The October Surprise as it is being called will focus on Health Care Legislation, Cap and Trade and the November Elections. The October Surprise is intended to get the media saying, they’re back, bigger than ever and where are they coming from?

Several approaches were proposed to the rallies which are going to target local offices for national elected officials. Some will hold drive by rallies and others will hold sign waving rallies. And in a ploy for media attetion one proposal suggested Patriots camp out on the steps of our elected officials offices until the vote and encourage them to mark against nationalized health care. The idea is to work in shifts either via tent and 24/7 for the duration, or just show up during office hours for the whole day the entire week of Oct 19-23. This extended presence will demonstrate that we have the passion and give the local media easy access to American’s who hold our viewpoint. It is intended to make the Tea Party message the primary viewpoint for local audiences as the vote nears.

Tea Party Patriots is a bottom up organization, thus events and dates are always controlled by the local organizers. Tea Party Patriots simply provides a unifying voice and theme. To maximize impact National organizers are asking that events be held beginning around October 17th, 2009 and last through October 25th, 2009 or until the final vote on nationalized health care is held.

Right now to the outside world it seems that the Tea Party movement has burnt out, but we are not. We are just average American’s who go about our business living our normal lives, we are the silent majority. We follow national events on television and on the radio so keenly it would appear as if our very existence depends on it, and in very real ways we know that it does. But history has proven that we always step up when we are called. And as tired and frustrated as we are, like a weary soldier in battle we will pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and continue to fight and continue to BE HEARD. No one said this was going to be easy and we are prepared to continue the fight.

Along with the October Surprise rallies, many others ideas were proposed. One that was enthusiastically supported included citizen investigations into elected officials campaign contributions using publicly available websites, public documents and any insider knowledge that can be found. The thought is that with over 30,000 willing volunteers and a subdued media, we can drum up better pictures of our elected officials and their motivations than we are currently getting from the press. The early list of elected officials includes both republicans and democrats who will have key votes on health care. A committee was formed to begin training Tea Party Patriot volunteers on how to use the internet to dig for information and how to share it. Bloggers across the country are standing by to analyze revelations of importance.

Priority #1: Kill this Bill!

The past couple of weeks, we have put the pressure on the Senate Finance committee to let them know that we do not want the government to takeover health care. The time has come where the legislation will be voted on within the next 2 to 3 days or 2 or 3 weeks and we need to turn up the heat!

One of our messages over the next week needs to be No Vote for Cloture. This means that if we can get one Senator of 60 not to vote for cloture, we can kill the bill! We have learned from one health care expert, there are 13 Senators that we have the possibility of turning and voting NO! Of these 13 Senators, two are up for reelection in 2010. The time has come for us to target and pressure these 13 Senators!

Will you do your part to help convince them that this government takeover of health care is not good for the American people? You can do your part and stand shoulder to shoulder with other Patriots this week by applying pressure to these 13 Senators.

The National Tea Party Patriots Coordinators have made this easy for you. They have broken the country into five regions and the 13 Senators into five groups. Each day, you call and email in priority the group of Senators that is assigned to our region of the country. This way, all 13 Senators will have a constant barrage of calls and emails all week. We need to make sure they feel the pressure daily.

All of the contact information is listed below the chart. It has been highly recommended that we target the Senators’ local district offices when calling, as the local offices are not used to getting pressure like the DC offices. When making your calls and sending your emails, please be sure to make four simple points:

No Government Takeover of Health Care

No Public Option

No Mandates

No Vote for Cloture

Also, please email the Chief of Staff for each Senator!

If you want to do even more, please focus on the Senate Finance Committee. You can get all of their contact information here.

One last point, when calling a Senator’ office from another state, you can tell them that their vote will affect all Americans.

You can also let them know you will be happy to contribute to the campaign of their opponent the next time they are up for reelection!

Thanks for all you are doing to save our great free capitalist society!

Together we can Kill This Bill!
