Author Oleg Atbashian presents his book to a libertarian/conservative group Liberty on the Rocks in Colorado Springs, August 23, 2011.

Oleg Atbashian is a writer and graphic artist from the former USSR. Born and raised in Ukraine, he used to be a teacher, a translator, a worker, a freelance journalist, and at one time a propaganda artist, creating visual agitprop for the local Party committee in a Siberian town. In 1994, he emigrated to the USA hoping to live in a country that was ruled by reason and common sense. Ironically, he now lives in New York City. He is the creator ofThePeoplesCube.com, a satirical website where he writes under the name of Red Square.

American Thinker is my favorite place to go for thoughtful conservative commentary. Sometimes, the comments that follow a piece are just as interesting as the article itself. The comment below followed an article by George Picard titled “Obama’s Racial Spoil System.” It is an excellent article, but what really caught my attention was this comment:

Stanley Kurtz coined a term to describe Barack Obama’s modus operandi as a state senator. He gave him the moniker Senator Stealth. One way of understanding Barack Obama’s stealthiness and capacity for hiding and befogging is that he is psychologically Islamic. Christianity calls for a boldness and directness of expression — the yea that is yea. However, Islamic doctrine is less straightforward. For example, the Islamic doctrine of taqiya means concealing or disguising one’s beliefs, convictions, ideas, feelings, opinions, and/or strategies at a time of imminent danger, whether now or later in time, to save oneself from physical and/or mental injury. It is impossible to imagine Barack Obama bravely leading soldiers in battle, but he has demonstrated an affinity for drone weapons. Does this affinity reflect his psychological incorporation of taqiya?

This theme of “otherness” in Obama is nothing new. But when you consider taqiya against the backdrop of Obama’s presidency so far, there are some interesting parallels. Twenty years of Jeremiah Wright had to have some effect.

Not long after the Tea Party sprang into being in the spring of 2009, America’s Progrssive Elites started vilifying the movement.  In an article worthy of a class-action libel suit, The New York Review of Books depicted the Tea Party’s first march on Washington as a parade of bigots.
Ex-president Jimmy Carter spit venom at Tea Partiers by saying they resented an African-American president — a stupid baseless charge of racism willingly echoed by the media.

Can each of us fire off an email to this guy please?  We just won this battle with the textbooks, just defeated another liberal on the SBOE with the victory of Charlie Garza in SBOE Dist. 1, and now we have a RINO pushing to revise!  Let treat Mr. Ratliff to some “tea” and remind him that Texans like traditional values and honest history taught to our kids.

Thanks for all you do.

Amy

Thomas Ratliff, a newly elected SBOE member and a RINO, has stated that he would like to change the Social Studies standards. The new SBOE representative for district 9, Thomas Ratliff needs to hear from all of you who sent emails earlier this year, registered to testify and helped to shape the future classrooms of not only Texas but the nation in support of the excellent Social Studies Standards passed!

Tell Ratliff to leave our new standards ALONE!  Email thomas@thomasratliff.com

The new standards can be read here.  They include teaching our national heritage, American Exceptionalism and our place “in the grand history of human progress” (Donna Garner, retired teacher.)

Below is more from Donna:

Public schools have become so secularized that they make no mention of Christmas or Easter. Many think that their rights and responsibilities are assigned by government rather than endowed by God. They struggle with the truths enshrined in our Declaration of Independence and are unaware of the protections against abusive central governmental power woven into the fabric of our Constitution.

I am also convinced that the existing [new -- adopted by the SBOE in May 2010] Social Studies Standards go a long way toward restoring a degree of rigor to our public school offerings and toward engendering in youngsters a bit of pride in America. The World History standards include evidence that Biblical truth underlies the advance of western civilization along the path to Democratic Revolution.

If you find them to your liking, an email to our new SBOE member Thomas Ratliff might help him decide to leave them alone. Please share this information with your friends who might send an email and register their ideas with Mr. Ratliff.

What a country!  Nowhere else on Earth can you rise to stratospheric heights of stardom and wealth and be such a complete ignoramus.  There’s a reason why actors like Danny Glover are given scripts.  How embarrassing for leftists everywhere.

Apparently, being here illegally is no longer justifiable cause for deportation. ICE will no longer deport illegals simply because they are here illegally. They must also be violent criminals. Click here to read more about this at Investor’s Business Daily.

Read Charles Krauthammer’s piece Sacrilege at Ground Zero for a level-headed, rational analysis and rationale for why the “Victory Over Infidels” Cordoba Mosque should not be built near Ground Zero.

Posted with WordPress for BlackBerry.

Message from Frank Gaffney: The Center for Security Policy today unveiled a powerful 1-minute video opposing the construction of a 13-story, $100 million mega-mosque near the hallowed ground of the World Trade Center. The Twin Towers were destroyed on 9/11 by adherents to the barbaric, supremacist and totalitarian program authoritative Islam calls “Shariah.” And the imam who is promoting this mosque has publicly declared that he seeks to “bring Shariah to America.”

As the ad makes clear, Shariah’s followers have long built mosques on the most sacred sites of those they have conquered — for example, on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, at Constantinople/Istanbul’s St. Sophia Basilica and in Cordoba, Spain, the capital of the occupying Moors’ Muslim kingdom.

A growing chorus of New Yorkers and other Americans — including, notably, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin — have expressed outrage at the prospect of a similar, permanent beachhead for Shariah being use to defile Ground Zero, and symbolize America’s defeat at the hands of her enemies. We say, “No Mosque at Ground Zero.”

Stalinism” is a useful term for the totalitarian left — even to the left itself. It’s one word they haven’t been able to chew up, gulp down, and transform into its opposite. They still know what “Stalinist” means, even after generations of new names for the same community agitators: “The New Left,” “hippies,” “Black Panthers,” “youthful radicals,” “idealistic students,” “feminists,” “the workers,” “black nationalists,” “Third World socialists,” “the wretched of the earth,” “Green Party,” “Gay activists,” “LGBT,” “Global Warming,” “peace and freedom party,” “eco activists,” “civil rights campaigners,” “post-modernists,” “gender studies,” “J Street,” “Bolivarismo,” “ACORN,” “undocumented workers,” “Moveon.org,” “Liberation Theology” — there must be hundreds and hundreds of front labels for the Same-Old, Same-Old. They make up new ones all the time. This year’s fashionable lefty cult is called “progressivism!”

As everyone in Brownsville and the rest of the valley know, Mayor Pat Ahumada is an avid animal lover and supports banning things like dangerous plastic bags. Some could confuse him for being a San Francisco transplant with his out-of-touch leftist policies.

Alas, San Francisco might have come up with an idea that even he could not have contemplated.

General McChrystal’s Rules of Engagement (ROE) for fighting the war in Afghanistan are predicated on the notion that collateral damage resulting in the deaths of civilians creates more insurgents. McCrystal thought that protecting civilians was actually more effective than large combat operations. McChrystal wrote,

Destroying a home or property jeopardizes the livelihood of an entire family — and creates more insurgents. We sow the seeds of our own demise.

In other words, poverty breeds terror. This is a myth, perpetuated by the well-intentioned and ill-informed. But it is a very seductive myth, reducing the unfathomably complex fabric of human existence to mere economics. This is the essence of Communism; namely, that the source of all human misery can be traced to a maldistribution of wealth. Thus, poverty causes crime, teen pregnancy, high school dropout rates, drug abuse, child abuse, and so on.

But General McChrystal is not a communist. He is a liberal.

Breaking tonight, our Democrat Congressman Solomon P. Ortiz from Corpus Christi voted NO to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.

Does Ortiz hate gays, lesbians, and bisexual?

(From The Peter Morrison Report)

Texas State Representative Debbie Riddle (R-Tomball) found herself in the middle of a firestorm the other day after she gave an interview to an obscure left wing talk show host in Houston.  An attorney named Geoff Berg hosts a weekly talk show called Partisan Gridlock on station KFPT which, just like Berg’s politics, is on the far left end of the FM dial.  KFPT is affiliated with the notoriously radical Radio Pacifica network.  For an idea of where Berg and KFPT are coming from, just look at a few of the programs on the station’s schedule:   Queer Voices, Proyecto Latino Americano, Uprising, Arab Voices,  Nuestra Palabra and Voz de la Tierra.

Berg was interviewing Rep. Riddle about her call for a crackdown on illegal immigration.  Rep. Riddle has promised to introduce legislation this year that will be very similar to the recent bill passed in Arizona; in other words, she wants a law on illegal immigration that will actually be effective.  During the interview, Berg employed a typical left wing tactic – he prefaced his question with “Without making it a racial issue…”, and then proceeded to bluntly make opposition to illegal immigration into a racial issue.
