Public employees are indispensable. No city or town can do without its firefighters, police, paramedics, sanitation workers, and so on. Even the tiniest of municipalities need people to sweep the floors of City Hall, stuff sheets of paper into manilla folders, round up stray dogs and cats, and so on. I have no idea how many city, county, state, and federal employees there are in Brownsville, but there must be quite a few.

Public employees are indispensable, but it really irks me when I read about public employees threatening to strike over benefits, pay, or whatever. At some point, collective bargaining becomes a euphemism for a shakedown, for extortion. You don’t want to cross firefighters or the police because . . . Why, exactly? If the city doesn’t give in to the demands of, say, the firefighters union, will they decide to no longer put out fires? Or will they continue in their capacity as firefighters, only in a somewhat more diminished capacity, meaning they’ll take their time getting to the blaze?

So we’ve gotten to the point where over the years public employees have demanded and been given class “A” benefit packages and retirement benefits that were unsustainable and unrealistic back when they were instituted, but were instituted anyway. And we’re broke.

Scary stuff.

While lurking the web I ran across a set of videos that fall into the “must view” category for conservatives this year. Recorded during Conservative New Media’s workshop the videos focus on tactics used by leftists and astroturfers during the 2008 primaries and election, and methods to defeat them.

The first 8 minutes of Part 1 provide historical background, but picking up thereafter you’ll find practical information on tactics taken straight out the Left’s playbook ranging from pulling down videos and astroturfing protests to death threats. If you’re interested in defeating the leftists on the net and at the polls then these videos are for you.

It’s truly disgusting to see how in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary that we as conservatives still have to couch our words and unequivocally provide a presumption of innocence. Bertha Lewis is a liar, a crook, and a fraud. Obama is inextricably linked with ACORN, Bill Ayers, The Rev. Jeremiah Wright and a veritable cornucopia of leftist malcontents dedicated to the subversion of the American way of life, and ultimately the subjugation of it’s citizenry.

The Founding Fathers would be rolling over in their graves if they had an internet connection.

Copenhagen climate summit in disarray after ‘Danish text’ leak

Steeeeeeeeeeerike TWO!

Apparently, leaked documents show that world leaders will next week be asked to sign an agreement that hands more power to rich countries (e.g., the U.S., U.K., and Denmark, among others) and sidelines the UN’s role in all future climate change negotiations.

First it’s the “hacked” emails in the Climategate scandal.  Now it’s the “leaked” document in Copenhagen.  Should we call it Copengate?

ACORN Exonerates Itself

After a series of embarrassing undercover videos revealed ACORN to be the corrupt enabler of welfare cheats, mortgage crooks, and pimps,  ACORN has released the results of an internal investigation showing that its employees did not break any laws.

It must be true.  ACORN says so.

The Truth Behind Climategate and Hopenhagen

Just follow the money.  Climate change is just another leftist wealth redistribution scheme.

Another Historic First for Obama

Obama’s approval rating fell to 47 percent, the lowest approval rating for any president at this stage of his presidency dating back to President Harry S Truman.  White House Press Secretary Gibbs was not amused.

The Smoking Gun at Darwin Zero

Indisputable evidence that the “homogenized” climate data has been changed to fit someone’s preconceptions about whether the earth is warming.

The First Sign Of Corruption

In retrospect, it’s not all that surprising that politically-motivated scientists would collude with one another to falsify data and thoroughly corrupt the peer review process.  Climategate revealed scientists to be mere humans, after all.

Lesbian Rhodes scholar and prison AIDS activist turned Air America radio jockette and MSNBC liberal commentator Rachel Maddow simply HATES Tea Partiers.   It should therefore come as no surprise that she would attribute the recent Republican revolt in New York’s 23rd district to astroturfing, ginned up by the likes of Dick Armey and FreedomWorks

On the November 3 broadcast of her show, Maddow said:

One point of interest in the New York 23 race has been the involvement of the ostensibly grassroots, but corporate-funded organization FreedomWorks, one of the many outside organizations that came in and sort of big-footed this local Republican Party race there. [Emphasis added]

Ostensibly grassroots?  I’m no Rhodes scholar, but I’m pretty sure she’s implying that FreedomWorks is NOT a grassroots organization.  The reason?  Because it is “corporate-funded.”

So . . . if a group that organizes communities accepts money from corporations, said group can no longer be considered ”grassroots.”  Therefore, ACORN is not a grassroots organization, either, since it has extorted, er received millions of dollars from banks and corporations.

But Maddow reserves her condemnation of ostensibly grassroots organizations to FreedomWorks, not ACORN.  In fact, Maddow is ACORN’s  biggest cheerleader.  A google search of “site:youtube.com rachel maddow acorn”  yielded the following hits, among others:

Rachel Maddow: The Truth About The Lies About Acorn
Rachel Maddow: Lies About Acorn & Something Unconstitutional?
Rachel Maddow: The Acorn Attack

Clearly, Maddow has a “thing” for ACORN.

But let’s go back to the Republican revolt in New York’s 23rd district.  Later in the program, Maddow gave her explanation for the townhall outburts that occurred across the country this past August:

The reason that sort of thing happened in so many different town hall meetings during the month of August all around the country is in part because those things were not spontaneous. [Emphasis added]

Maddow goes on to discuss a memo authored by a Conecticut man named Bob MacGuffie that was supposedly circulated before one or more townhall meetings, urging people to essentially disrupt the meetings Alinsky style.  Maddow’s feigned outrage was, to put it mildly, unconvincing.  Maddow’s slobbering love affair with ACORN makes her faux outrage all the more laughable.

“Yes, but what does this have to do with NY23? ” you ask.

Maddow:

In our reporting over the summer, we described the author of that disrupt the town halls memo as a FreedomWorks volunteer, because of the extreme behavior at some town halls and the amount of attention they got, FreedomWorks chairman Dick Armey tried to disassociate himself and his organization from that memo specifically on “Meet the Press” while at the same time attacking me for us reporting on it.

So, let’s thread the needle here.  Maddow contends that the Republican revolt in New York’s 23rd district was astroturfed by FreedomWorks, which is not a bonafide grassroots organization because it accepts donations given freely by evil corporations (unlike ACORN which only accepts money it can extort from corporations).  And to prove her point, Maddow accuses FreedomWorks chairman Dick Armey of commiserating with the author of a memo supposedly circulated before some townhall meetings in August.

What rubbish.  I would expect more of a Rhodes scholar.

Most Freedom@Work readers are already aware of a growing scandal involving the pro-forced unionism Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now (ACORN) in New York, Baltimore, Washington, and now, California. For those who missed it, ACORN representatives were caught on camera giving advice to undercover journalists on how to open an illegal brothel, launder its profits, and commit a host of other illegal activities.

According to The Washington Examiner, teacher union officials have contributed over 1.3 million dollars (in mostly forced union dues) to ACORN since 2005.

We decided to do a little digging into union financial disclosure forms on the Department of Labor’s website. After examining union financial records, it turns out that officials of several high-profile unions diverted large sums of mostly forced union dues dollars to the same ACORN offices in Washington and New York that are implicated in the hidden camera scandal.

In 2008, for example, the AFL-CIO New York City Teacher Union gave a total of $406,730 to an ACORN office in Brooklyn that was later exposed by undercover journalists at Big Government. This contribution was classified under “representational activities,” meaning it was funded by teachers forced to pay dues to teacher union bosses. In states without a Right to Work law like New York, employees who don’t join unions can still be forced to pay union dues if union bosses acquire monopoly bargaining privileges.

Ed Morrissey over at HotAir.com posted an item about Media Matters‘ hit piece on Glenn Beck.

Oh, they want Beck’s head on a plate so baaaaad.  Beck is the new Bush.  Beckhitler.  Beck lied, people died.  The radical ecomarxist Alinsky-inspired statist faction that is the base of today’s Democrat party is absolutely furious at Beck for outing the self-admitted communist and racist and general purpose loon Van Jones.  Outing is ok only if the target is a closet gay and Republican.  I guess Beck didn’t get the memo.

How do you defend the indefensible?  Why, you edit and cherrypick.  That’s how.  Media Matters claims that Beck bought into a very wacky-looking and wacky-sounding Acorn employee’s admission to murder without checking on the veracity of the story first.  Media Matters took some of Beck’s words out of context, edited some video, and Presto!  Proof Positive that Beck is an idiot and should be ignored.

Morrissey does a good job dismissing Media Matters’ obvious distortion of the facts, but he doesn’t go far enough.  In attempting to smear Glenn Beck, Media Matters is defending ACORN.  Media Matters is defending a criminal enterprise caught red-handed promoting child prostitution, tax fraud, and murder.

Find your Representative. Let him/her know that you do NOT want to fund ACORN, a well-known criminal enterprise, with your tax dollars. Call, email, fax, or write a letter. The Senate voted overwhelmingly (83 – 7) to de-fund ACORN. Pelosi will not de-fund ACORN unless a strong majority of House members fear they will not win re-election in 2010 should they vote to fund ACORN.

If the Van Jones resignation is blamed on his statements about Republicans and 9/11, a great lesson will have been lost. As we argued in a previous column, “It’s the communism, stupid.” If people don’t recognize the dangers of having a communist in the White House, then the nature of the scandal will not have been understood. Blogger Trevor Loudon of New Zealand broke the story on April 6 and has some thoughts on what happened and where this story is heading.

His main point is that Van Jones and Barack Obama share the same Marxist ideology and background. Obama, however, is more careful and clever.

There’s an old saying, “If you don’t know where you’re going, it doesn’t matter which road you take.” As Trevor Loudon argues, Jones and Obama know precisely where they’re going. And the Jones resignation doesn’t mean that Obama will take a detour from the road that he wants to take the country on. Indeed, as Loudon explains, they are both on the same road.

The development of the scandal, which was seized upon by World Net Daily, Glenn Beck and other media outlets and personalities, began in Loudon’s research into the existence of communist networks. Loudon blogs at www.newzeal.blogspot.com  A compilation of his most important articles on Jones can be found here.
