The Fifth Element is one of my favorite movies. For some reason, it occurred to me that there is a scene in the movie that explains Barack Obama’s domestic policy agenda.
In this scene, Zorg explains why a little desctruction and chaos is good for The Common Man.
UPDATE: Do I really believe that Gary Oldman as Zorg is explaining Barack Obama’s domestic policy agenda for the country?
Eh, no. It is a satirical comparison. My intention was to amuse, possibly evoke a little laughter.
Sheesh.

Brash spending on both sides of the aisle has to stop!
Once on the ground, FEC filings suggest, [Republican National Committee Chairman Michael] Steele travels in style. A February RNC trip to California, for example, included a $9,099 stop at the Beverly Hills Hotel, $6,596 dropped at the nearby Four Seasons, and $1,620.71 spent [update: the amount is actually $1,946.25] at Voyeur West Hollywood, a bondage-themed nightclub featuring topless women dancers imitating lesbian sex.
All media, mainstream or otherwise, cannot continue with the innuendos either. I’m not defending or excusing the actions of the RNC reimbursing anyone for this kind of shenanigans. Moral majority indeed. But as Hot Air points out, Read the rest of this entry »

Eleven minutes and forty-seven seconds.
That’s the total time Representative Solomon P. Ortiz (D-TX 27) spent on the floor of Congress for all of 2009.
The fourteen-term Democratic congressman spent about as long as a SpongeBob SquarePants’ episode speaking on our behalf. Maybe because the Methodist fears garbling facts when speaking from a script like claiming legendary judges were “two legislative giants.”
Ortiz’s constituency spreads across six counties from Corpus Christi to Brownsville with 700,000 residents.
Is this the best we can do?
Individuals and political action committees, inside and outside the district, donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to support his re-election in just the last 15 months. Why?
With almost three months expired in 2010, Ortiz spoke on the floor for three minutes and forty-three seconds. And it wasn’t for health care either.
[Representative Charlie Wilson] WAS KNOWN IN THE HALLS OF CONGRESS AS A GOOD-TIME CHARLIE. BUT HE WAS — BUT IT WAS AN APPROPRIATE NAME FOR HIM. . . BUT HE ENJOYED LIFE, HE BROUGHT A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG LADY FROM RUSSIA TO VISIT THE UNITED STATES AND THEY ASKED CHARLIE ARE YOU GOING TO GIVE HER YOUR CREDITS? HE SAID THE ONLY THING I’M GOING TO GIVE HER ARE VICTORIA’S SECRETS.
Shame on the people who have not voted him out, yet.
The Cook Partisan Voting Index (CPVI)…is a measurement of how strongly an American congressional district or state leans toward one political party compared to the nation as a whole…
Texas 27th Republican +2
Things look brighter for Republicans Blake Farenthold and James Duerr.
UPDATE: I forgot to give a shout out thanks to C-SPAN. They have done an excellent job of archiving their video digitally on the web.
