If logic and reason were all that was necessary to defeat leftists and their ruinous ideology, conservatives would win every election and movie stars would earn minimum wage.
I was a bystander in an online debate recently over the subject of anger in parenting (“It’s bad for parents to be angry when they punish their children” and the counter-argument “No, it isn’t”). The debate was interesting in an academic way, but the vast majority of people who vote aren’t swayed by logic or reason.
That’s why Alinsky in particular and the Left in general are so effective: They appeal to raw, unbridled emotion. It’s also why LibProgs since Wilson have been pining for the moral equivalent of war (William James, I believe) as an organizing force to impel people to “get in line” and “do their fair share.”
After all, wars are not logical. Each side in a conflict portrays the other as an evil villain that must be defeated in order to preserve or restore harmony. That’s how you convince young men to go off to war to kill people and break things.
Did you notice how animated, loud, boisterous, and angry the protesters in Madison, WI, were? Contrast that with the solemn, polite, sentimental, and tidy 9-12ers and Tea Partiers.
Who do you think would win in a street fight?
My money’s on the SEIU goons and unionista thugs.
I think we need to inject more emotion into the debate if we ever hope to defeat the LibProgs. Nobody cares how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. But they’ll watch every emotion-charged episode of American Idol.
Public employees are indispensable. No city or town can do without its firefighters, police, paramedics, sanitation workers, and so on. Even the tiniest of municipalities need people to sweep the floors of City Hall, stuff sheets of paper into manilla folders, round up stray dogs and cats, and so on. I have no idea how many city, county, state, and federal employees there are in Brownsville, but there must be quite a few.
Public employees are indispensable, but it really irks me when I read about public employees threatening to strike over benefits, pay, or whatever. At some point, collective bargaining becomes a euphemism for a shakedown, for extortion. You don’t want to cross firefighters or the police because . . . Why, exactly? If the city doesn’t give in to the demands of, say, the firefighters union, will they decide to no longer put out fires? Or will they continue in their capacity as firefighters, only in a somewhat more diminished capacity, meaning they’ll take their time getting to the blaze?
So we’ve gotten to the point where over the years public employees have demanded and been given class “A” benefit packages and retirement benefits that were unsustainable and unrealistic back when they were instituted, but were instituted anyway. And we’re broke.
Scary stuff.

The fight is far from over in Wisconsin. Governor Walker and the Republicans in the Wisconsin state House may have won a crucial battle, but the war goes on. The unionistas are now planning on getting a LibProg elected to the state Supreme Court, which would tip the balance of power in favor of the unionistas.
According to the Texas Political Insider,
A memo written by liberal groups explains that the left’s strategy is to win this race and then “challenge in the courts,” nearly every budget reform that Mr. Walker and the Republican majority in the legislature tries to enact. It also appears that if the court challenge to the collective bargaining bill goes all the way to the Supreme Court, this would happen after the April 5th election.
This should come as no surprise to anyone affiliated with the tactics of the political left. Frustrated at the ballot box and the arena of public opinion, they simply shift focus to manipulation of the courts and the legal system. This is the branch of government in which the political left is the most comfortable because they can rule by decree and avoid pesky, annoying and time- consuming processes like open debate and elections.
There are many roads to socialism, communism, totalitarianism, and ruin. And the unionistas know them all very well.
I bailed and failed.
I went to the Brownsville City Commission meeting yesterday, speech in hand, waited through two hours of speechifying and Commissioners thanking one another for help on projects and presentations of awards and so on, and I left before they voted to condemn Arizona for their anti-illegal immigration law.
As a gringo born and raised in Brownsville, I know a little something about racism. I have felt like an outsider my whole life. But I’ve never really felt threatened or intimidated until last night.
As I sat there, last row aisle left toward center, and observed the interaction between the audience and the Commissioners and mayor, it was clear to me that I was about to play in a rigged game. And the consequences would be real and long-lasting, possibly for the remainder of my life.
This is the disquieting effect of political correctness. This is what fear of charges of racism has on ordinary citizens who don’t have a racist bone in their bodies.
All the smiles, handshakes, effusive praise of the “Honorable” mayor and commissioners, the recognized residents breathless in anticipation for their opportunity at the podium to heap praise on the Commissioners and Mayor . . . I had unwittingly entered an echo chamber of support for this Commission. I read and re-read the speech I had written, thinking “They’re going to dismiss me as a racist, in the presence of both the Chief of Police and the Fire Marshall,” both of whom had just been awarded plaques for meritorius service. I thought about my house, our HOME for nearly two decades, thought about my wife, our silly dogs playing in the backyard . . .
“What the hell am I doing?” I asked myself.
I started re-writing the speech in my head, but slowly the realization came into focus. The content of my speech didn’t matter. The careful articulation of facts in concert with logic and reason is meaningless in a political climate governed by the rules of political correctness, where the intent of a law is more important than its results and the seriousness of an accusation more important than actual guilt. I’d have been branded and dismissed as just another typical angry white racist male, and would have had to endure the consequences of the accusation in the community of my birth for the rest of my life.
I don’t want to be regarded as an angry white racist male; I want to be RIGHT. This was my first foray into city politics. My failure to follow through is painful, and I’ll have to deal with that, but this is a war. It is a politico-cultural war, and as in any war, you have to recognize when the enemy has the advantage. You fall back, reorganize, and counter-attack when conditions improve. You change tactics. Adapt.
Round One goes to the leftists. But I’ll be back. It may be a rigged game, but even rigged games have rules. I’ll beat them at their own game.

New book reveals shocking truth about president’s radical associations.
American Thinker: The Progressives’ Perfect Trojan Horse.
Obama has gotten away with his blatantly tyrannical, unconstitutional, radical agenda simply because he is black.

While lurking the web I ran across a set of videos that fall into the “must view” category for conservatives this year. Recorded during Conservative New Media’s workshop the videos focus on tactics used by leftists and astroturfers during the 2008 primaries and election, and methods to defeat them.
The first 8 minutes of Part 1 provide historical background, but picking up thereafter you’ll find practical information on tactics taken straight out the Left’s playbook ranging from pulling down videos and astroturfing protests to death threats. If you’re interested in defeating the leftists on the net and at the polls then these videos are for you.
